Michael DeAgro, MS, MFA, LPC is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, educator, and clinician. His work has spanned multiple fields of study, including counseling psychology, health psychology, neuroscience, Chinese and Japanese medicine, visual and performing arts, creative arts therapies, somatic psychotherapies, nature-based therapies, equine-assisted psychotherapy, and the contemplative alchemy of his beloved hermit teacher, Jose Luis.
Michael holds a BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design, an MS in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University, an MFA in Studio Arts form Maryland Institute College of Art, and post-graduate studies in Psychodrama/Sociodrama and Group Psychotherapy, Chinese/Japanese medicine with specialties in manual and herbal medicine, Equine Bodywork Therapy, Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, and Neijing Nature-Based Medicine. In addition to his clinical practice, Michael teaches Shiatsu and Asian Bodywork Therapies and visual and performance arts. He also serves as Assistant Faculty for the Apricot Grove Project and the Gwen Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University.
Michael’s love of Neijing Nature-Based Medicine reflects his lifelong curiosity about the nature of consciousness and the ecology of an animate cosmos. He explores art making and medicine as a contemplative and transformative practice devoted toward the wonder of a life well lived. His current research investigates art making as a medical intermediary between the living body and the resonant motions of nature.
