Kanisha Tiedeman

Indigenous Traditions

Kanisha Tiedeman (she/her) is an Indigenous birth worker and ancestral skin marker from Cordova, Alaska. Her journey as a mother, artist, and cultural practitioner has shaped her dedication to revitalizing traditional knowledge and supporting individuals through life’s sacred transitions.

Deeply rooted in the wisdom of her ancestors, Kanisha’s work centers on honoring the natural rhythms of the body, guiding families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with reverence for autonomy and ancestral wisdom. As an ancestral skin marker, she helps individuals embody their personal and collective narratives through traditional tattooing, a practice of storytelling, identity, and transformation.

Kanisha believes in the power of connection—to self, to community, and to the land. She is committed to revitalizing Indigenous healing practices, bridging modern and ancestral care models, and cultivating spaces where cultural traditions thrive. Through her work, she continues to walk the path of lifelong learning, teaching, and remembering.
